On our way to conquer the Cassiar! The Cassiar Highway is an alternate route to the Alaskan Highway, and we’ve tried twice before to complete it. In 2018, our RV’s radiator leaked and we had to turn back. In 2025, we were heading to try it again, when about 300 miles from the start, our RV’s slide got stuck and we had to head back home.
We left Skagway, stopping for the night at Six Mile River Resort in Tagish, a quaint little place with an excellent restaurant and a view of the Tagish River.

Next stop Watson Lake for supplies and fuel. Now we’re ready for the Cassiar!

When we saw this glacier in 1995, it was down to the lake. It’s receded quite a bit since then.
We stopped in Stewart, BC almost to the end of the Cassiar, so that we could go, one more time, into Alaska! The almost ghost town of Hyder, AK is just across the boarder. We were too early to see bears, as the salmon weren’t running yet, but we did get to check out the Salmon Glacier, that we also saw in 1995. It too, was much smaller.

And, yes, we completed the Cassiar Highway!

Dear R&P: Wow, so glad you were able to complete the Cassiar Highway! Chris says beautiful!!! Gorgeous scenery as always. Amazing glaciers, even if shrinking. Not sure we can slow climate change so good you saw them now. In 50 years they may be gone. Would love to go with you if you take future trips to AK! C&C
