Leaving Homer, we expected to take several days to get to Valdez, and camp before Anchorage, but as we got closer to Anchorage, it became clear that the campgrounds there were filling up for the week-end, so we had to push on, past Anchorage and stayed the night in Palmer at Matanuska River Park – a surprisingly nice city RV park that we had stayed at in 2018!
On a trip in 2012 we discovered an amazing little inn, Sheep Mountain Lodge and restaurant a few hours past Palmer, and we made a point of stopping there again on our 2018 trip. So we had to stop there yet again in 2026!
The drive to Valdez was past glaciers, snow covered mountains, and incredible water falls. We’ve been so lucky with the weather – hope it continues 🤞
