In a holding pattern, again

Tow truck arrived at 11 am this morning and towed us to the nearest town, Watson Lake on the Alaska Highway. Yes, we’ve been here before on the way up to AK, and we weren’t planning on going back this way, but here we are. Today is a Canadian holiday, Discovery Day, so we weren’t able to get any repairs started. But we did find out that the only mechanic in town can’t fit us in until Friday. So tomorrow we will make some calls to the next town that will have a radiator repair shop, Whitehorse, 280 miles back north on the Alaska Highway, and decide whether to have it towed there or wait it out until Friday here. Either way, it’s unlikely that we will be able to salvage much, if any, of our plans for the rest of the trip and will just need to get home.

Coco rode on the dash while the RV was towed.

We’re spending the night in the RV still on the tow truck in case we decide to take it back to White Horse.

It’s a BIG step up into the RV. Think we’ll not drink too much beer tonight!

  1. Holy Cow…. things are getting tough. From here it’s easy to be sort of philosophical about it.. I mean you are retired so there really is no rush to get home…but if I was where you are I’d be real frustrated. This part of the “adventure” is not cool…. Hang in there

  2. You’re right about it being good that we’re retired and not needing to get back for a job. But we do have a neighbor taking care of the dog and mowing the lawn for us; she always does this for us when we’re away but was a little reluctant to do it for 2 months. Now we may be asking her to do it for longer.
And yes we are so frustrated right now at how long this potentially will take. Will find out today if they can do it sooner in Whitehorse 280 miles away. And then there’s the cost of towing it there… But it makes for good blog material!

  3. If you’re at all able to travel through Bend, we’ll be on the property until 9/4. After that, we’ll be in town at Scandia RV Park until 10/4.
    We hope to see you!!!
    Enjoy the lemonade!
